Anal and vaginal penetration are not interchangeable

The vagina and rectum sit close together but behave differently. Understanding lubrication, stretching, bacteria transfer, pain, and product design helps reduce injury and infection risk.

What is different

Design matters

Anything inserted anally should have a wide flared base so it cannot travel fully inside. Vaginal products can also be retained, but product shapes and removal plans differ.

Change before changing sites

Bacteria from the rectum can cause vaginal or urinary problems. Put on a new condom or barrier and clean toys or hands before vaginal contact.
