Body and variation library

There is no single normal-looking vulva.

See how labia, color, folds, clitoral hoods, and pubic hair naturally vary. Learn what anatomy does, what can change through life, and when a new change deserves care.

A realistic painted portrait with an educational pelvic orientation overlay, representing body learning without presenting one body as a standard.

Opt-in medical atlas

Browse difference without ranking bodies.

Explore 25 high-detail adult teaching illustrations at the same educational scale. They show combinations of natural variation, not fixed “types,” beauty standards, or diagnostic examples.

  • No image is presented as ideal or more normal.
  • Appearance alone cannot diagnose infection or disease.
  • You choose whether detailed external anatomy appears.

What can differ

Variation has many dimensions.

01

Inner labia

May be mostly covered, clearly visible, long, short, smooth, folded, even, or asymmetric.

02

Outer labia

Vary in fullness, hair, wrinkles, color, and how much they cover the inner anatomy.

03

Clitoral hood

Coverage, folds, and visible glans vary. The clitoris extends well beyond the visible part.

04

Color

Vulvar skin may be pink, red-brown, purple-brown, gray-brown, or deeper than nearby skin.

05

Pubic hair

Density, curl, color, coverage, graying, trimming, and removal all vary. Hair is not a hygiene problem.

06

Change through life

Puberty, arousal, pregnancy, birth, hormones, surgery, menopause, aging, and treatment can change appearance.
